I am 52, 14 years to retirement, accumulation phase, objective is growth, 2 years before my only kid goes to college.

Current portfolio allocation is:

US stocks 35%, International Stocks 15%, Bonds 15%, Cash 35%
Stocks (us+ intl) = Large 70%, mid cap 21%, small cap 9%

Bonds: Investment grade 94%, short duration 36%, Intermediate 37%, long 27%

How would you optimize this portfolio?

Take into account that retirement and college investing are 2 totally different things.

College savings will be spent over a 4 year period or so, you need to protect the principal. With only 2 years left I would decrease allocation to stocks.

Do you need so big part of your portfolio in cash?

No, I am fine to decrease it.

So I would decrease it to 3-5% and decrease stock allocation to 30%
